Welcome to my BLOG!

Question: Why the name, "Nocturnal Quilter" for the blog?

OK, I'll explain why I chose this name.

First and foremost...I am not a morning person. Try as I might, it just doesn't work for me. I come alive around 8:00 p.m. or so, and if left to my own devices, I would quilt well into the night / morning. Hence, the name, Nocturnal Quilter.

Another reason is my quilt, Nocturnal Spontaneity, which is the background for the blog banner. But more on that later. To be continued...

Mom,
First of all, let me congratulate you on your beautiful new web site!
This is my first time blogging so I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, or if this is the proper forum for what I'm about to say... but, here goes...
I'm Matthew, the son of Nocturnal Quilter, who lives to far away, but has the perfect wife. Both statements are true. As long as I can remember, my Mom has always sewn. When I was a child, she made my stuffed animals and many of my clothes. Somewhere Mom has a picutre of me as a young boy in purple corduroy bell bottoms and matching vest. As I grew older, home made clothes weren't "cool" (Mom, can I PLEASE get some LEVI'S?). She would also sew things to sell at craft and holiday fairs. As an adult, I realize now, that the money she made from what she sold made ends meet in our household. The money also helped keep me in hockey equipment and allowed me to play the game that taught me many life lessons.
Years later, during one of our long distance phone calls, Mom tells me she is taking up quilting. She decided to take some lessons and join a guild. I thought to myself, ok, that's cool, we all have our hobbies. I truly had no idea about the quilting world and the beautiful art that is out there. During one of my East Coast visits, Mom showed me some pictures of quilts by other artists who inspired her and I was amazed.
Then I watched my Mom's skill and talent grow. Who knew my Mom, who made stuffed animals and placemats, would grow to the artist she is today. Sure, I'm just a little biased, but I sure am proud of how hard she has worked to get where she is now. I love hearing what inspires her and I always wait anxiously for her next quilt.
So, great job, Mom!!! Keep up the good work! What's next?...

Love, Matthew
